Relationships Matter

Thinking through the more meaningful, big, important moments I’ve been a part of or even some small, quiet moments – the thing that made them what they are is relationships. Relationships with people and with God. I have seen this so much in the last several months in the work we get to do in Tanzania.East Africa is even more relationship-valuing than the US. Often times in America we think we can do things on our own or we think we are better if we can be independent. Tanzanians value eachother and the things they can do together. In fact, one of my favorite sayings of theirs is “If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together”. Isn’t that the truth?

Dan and I have been a team with Hilbert and Neema working to care for kids who don’t have relatives to care for them for 7 years now – we have worked through some amazing times and through some difficult times. When we visited this summer in June, I felt a unity with them that only comes through deep and real relationship. We are on the same page, which is wanting to care for kids while working to reunify them with a family member. That is something to celebrate, that is something that has taken years to achieve! I am so thankful that we get to visit often to remain in unity and spend time together – that means a lot and is very important.

Hilbert and Neema are taking classes through the government to learn about the reunification process and how to help the kids through it as well. Neema has just completed a nursing program in order to provide excellent care for kids in her home. They are excited about working with the social worker to locate the family members of the kids in their care and slowly reintegrate them into the lives of eachother. They are excited because they know this is what is best for the kids in the long run.

We have been a team, us four, but we have also had a strong and faithful team of supporters – prayerfully supporting and financially supporting. Y’all have carried the work for many years and we are very grateful! Though we don’t get to see many of you very often, we feel in deep relationship with you as we are connected through this thing that God is doing in Tanzania. And relationships matter!

The other way I have really seen relationships matter recently is through the lives of our students that we took to Tanzania this last June (and the June prior). Thank you for praying for this recent trip! These students have heard stories, prayed for the work, and been involved with Tanzania as they’ve gotten to know our family. Of course they want to go on the trip to go to Africa – who wouldn’t? But they would not have come had we not had relationship with them. Each of them has a story of how that time was used by God to draw them closer to Him and change them for what He wants to do in their lives and in our world. And because of our relationships, we have the privilege of experiencing all of that with them.

Do you want to join in these relationships? If you are receiving this email, you already are! I’m curious if you want to join further – would you be interested in committing to pray or committing to financial support? Let us know 😊 We are thankful!

Prayer Needs:

Pray that the Lord Jesus would continue to sustain and grow this orphan home.

Prayer for continued positive relationship and favor with the local government.

Prayer for help and safety over the kids and Hilbert and Neema

Pray for the education and learning of the kids – this is the way for them to make a future

Financial Needs: Monthly/Annual donations are the most helpful way to partner financially. It is best for Tanzania for all needed materials and foods to be bought in country as it stimulates and supports the local economy. Cost of living increases there so we are always in need of more partners in this way. If this is something you’d like to be a part of or have questions about please write back or call us.
